Hello! Sorry for being behind on posting, race season is now in full swing.
Last weekend we hit up Theodore Wirth for the Supertour/CCSA races in the Tour de Twin Cities. It was a rough weekend for the Oles, but it was a good first big race weekend to start and the first 15/20k mass start for a lot of the team. The weather was frigid and the course was a difficult one, so the whole weekend was a learning experience for everyone. We came out of the weekend excited for the next one.
Results:
5k/10k Skate
15k/20k Classic
Today we split the team, with the travel team heading to Giant's Ridge for the St. Scholastica Invitational (CCSA) and the D-team heading back to Theodore Wirth for the last stages of the Tour de Twin Cities.
Varsity: After last weekend, today was a good chance to get our feet underneath us. We feel more comfortable at the races, know where we belong in the results, and we were confident, organized, and excited to race on fantastic trails. Everyone had a strategy to work on, and pretty much everyone had good races because of it. For a lot of the skiers who grew up in the Midwest, it was fun to return to the Ridge and tackle the difficult courses with improved skiing abilities. Paige Schember was 8th after skiing her first race back from mononucleosis, and freshman Liam John posted the top Olaf men's place in 24th.
Results:
5k/10k Classic
D-team: From what results show, last weekend helped prepare everyone. Knowing what to expect in a race environment helped everyone ski smarter races. Nora Gilbertson was first OJ and Paul Dau had an outstanding race coming in 10th OJ. Cole Hendrickson pulled off a top 10 in the citizen's race.
Results:
5k/10k Classic
Tomorrow we race again, with the varsity skiing a 15k/20k mass start skate and the D-team skiing a 10k pursuit skate. I'll post pictures and results from tomorrow later.
Pray for more snow in the cities!!
